Captain's Blog - 12th May 2011

The York Meeting started well for us here on the blog with our selection Pekan Star winning at 7/1. A much needed decent priced winner has settled the nerves now and hopefully the rest of the month will be a profitable one for us.

I will be heading to Newmarket today to work for this evening. Dave Nevison will be my guest if he manages to find his way from York to Suffolk and it should be a good evening as we will be taking in all the racing from Ludlow as well. I have worked at this fixture for the last two years and it is a rare beast in that it is an evening meeting at the Rowley Mile. As ever I suspect the usual rules will apply as far as the racing is concerned at this track with front runners having a distinct advantage with those held up finding it diffcult to get involved. This has been the way at the Rowley Mile for a good few years now and I do not expect anything to change tonight.

Many thanks to Rishi Persad for his company in the studio last night. It is a number of years since I had the pleasure of working with him and he was in good form last night. He will be presenting our coverage of the Lockinge at Newbury on Saturday with Dave Yates and I would urge you to tune in.

The Dante is the feature event on today and I fully expect Seville to run well. He has a stamina laden pedigree and will surely improve for the step up to 10 furlongs. He has already shown himself to be decent and can surely only improve over this trip. World Domination and Carlton House are both horses with huge potential. World Domimation won despite being green last time at Newbury and Carlton House was very impressive in his last run of the season as a two year old. Both horses have untold potential and may yet be serious Derby contenders but they have something to prove yet and Seville strikes me as the safest punting option in the race.

Enjoy today.
