Angus McNae

Captain's Blog - 18th June 2011

The Royal Ascot marathon continues apace, but it is the final slog today and the finishing line is in sight. It has been a good one for me largely because I have not got involved much, but a small wager on Beachfire yesterday has put me in front and now I need one bet to land to make it a decent week. I have backed Lee Westwood to beat Luke Donald in the US Open and currently with two rounds to go he is three shots ahead, it is going to be a long weekend watching them slug it out but I am hopeful Westy can do it. Donald usually finishes with a flourish when the pressure is off so I need a decent lead going into the final round. I am in a good position at the moment but things can turn around very quickly in golf.

We usually head to the Royal Meeting on this day every year to enjoy a picnic on the heath, but this year we will be staying at home because the little one is too young to subject to the pushing and shoving on the train and the weather is not exactly set fair. Instead we will head out for a spot of lunch and a walk before having a quiet evening. I would also like to get some work done in the garden today because I have been neglecting that side of things lately, but that particular project will be guided by the weather and my own personal motivation which is fairly low at the moment having stayed up beyond midnight watching the golf and then getting up early with my daughter. A coffee or two will do the trick I guess and an early night tonight may give me half a chance of getting a few things done tomorrow.

Tomorrow is my first Fathers' Day and I have been promised a trip to the pub for a couple of beers which will be very nice and will make a change. We used to be regular pub visitors but rarely cross the threshold now so when we do it is something of a treat!
