Really competitive action today across the board and across the country and a mixture of flat and jumps. AP McCoy was in tremendous form at Worcester yesterday and my better half got to present him the prize for the first race. Unbelievably he is on an outsider in a four horse race at Ffos Las today, the 4.20, all things considered he should be worth an interest. At a quick glance he could ride the first three winners at the meeting, FIRST IN THE QUEUE, VERY STYLISH and OWEN GLENDOWER so by the time STRONG SOUL comes along you can back it now and hedge it away at 4.15.
On to the flat and Newcastle start a really exciting three days culminating in Northumberland Plate Day on Saturday. The 3.20 has many ramifications for Newcastle’s 3.40 on Saturday with many doubling up checking the 48 hour decs, all that said I really like the look of BONFIRE KNIGHT who for me will appreciate the drop back in distance to a mile, he has a valuable seven pounds taken off his back by Shane B Kelly and could be value.
At Warwick TYFOS is always worth following at this time of the year. He is very consistent and showed he retained all his ability with a solid fourth over a five furlongs which is too short for him. J-P Guillambert is on a bit of a roll, four winners from his last ten rides.
Finally at Leicester this evening the two which appeal are PANDOREA in the 8.10 and GEMS at 8.40.
Michael Bell and Hayley Turner have teamed up for four winners from their last ten
Silvestre De Sousa has had six wins, two seconds and a third from his last 21 rides
Paul Hanagan has had four wins, five seconds and a third from his last 12 rides
Kieren Fallon has had five wins and a second from his last 14 rides
Signposts page 20 in today’s Racing Post flag up that Nathan Sweeney and Domino Dancer are three from three, they go in the 3.45 from Ffos Las
A P McCoy has had five winners, two seconds and two thirds from his past 14 rides
The favourite or second favourite have won eight of the nine runnings of Warwick’s 2.20
The favourite is five from eight in Warwick’s 4.05
