Captain's Blog - 4th July 2011

Night Carnation was a 13/2 winner for us here on the blog on Saturday. He was also my out of the ballpark selection on Mark Your Card so I am feeling somewhat bullish about things at the moment. This great game of ours is sure to take the wind out of my sails soon though!

I attended a christening yesterday and the after-church party afforded me the opportunity to have a couple of cold beers which I have not enjoyed for a couple of weeks now, and boy did they go down well. I will be rewarding my body though today by going for a run at 10.00am around our local park. That should shake yesterday's indulgence off quickly and get me nicely prepared for a trip to Tesco later on today. Sounds like a blast doesn't it? A run on a hot day followed by a trip to Tesco, yes I am living the dream!

So You Think and Seamie Heffernan came through a big test on Saturday with flying colours. The key to his win was riding the horse with a good deal more patience than they did at Ascot. He is a horse with plenty of speed and that speed needs to be used at the end of the race rather than in the middle. I think 10 furlongs is as far as he should go and he would be a formidable opponent over a mile for the likes of Canford Cliffs and Frankel. As for Workforce, for me he went down in a blaze of glory and was simply beaten by a better horse at the trip; he could also have done with a bit more cut in the ground. He will be tough to beat in the Arc.

I have a busy week for and will be back in the studio tomorrow. See you then.

All the best.
