Captain's Blog - 7th September 2011

I am in the studio tonight to present all the action from Kempton Park. Eddie Freemantle will join me and I am looking forward to working with him again. The card at Kempton is pretty much the usual fair, but we will do our best to jazz it up as best we can and of course we hope to hear from you at the usual address, [email protected].

Godolphin had two winners at Lingfield yesterday. Both were two year old fillies making their debuts over 7 furlongs and both were impressive. The faster time was posted by Ihsas who is closely related to Rio De La Plata and got the perfect Lingfield trip away from the deep inside rail and won despite appearing to be green under pressure. On the other hand Punita posted a slow time but may just be the better prospect. This daughter of Distorted Humour was held up in a slowly run race and then quickened up in fine style right against the deep far rail. You rarely see a horse do this at Lingfield. She burst clear at the furlong pole and to do so in the manner she did on the worst part of the track was particularly impressive. She may be a horse to look out for at Meydan when the Carnival begins early next year.

The Doncaster Leger meeting starts today and I always associate this meeting with the end of the flat season. I know there is plenty of excellent flat action to come after Doncaster but for me the St Leger has always signalled the beginning of the end and in essence the start of the jumps season. I enjoy punting at Doncaster where I believe that course form (rather like Ascot) is more vital than at other tracks. For whatever reason some horses seem to like Doncaster and always seem to run well there and if you are playing there over the next few days course form is well worth a look.

No joy with our selection yesterday. Today I am keen on the chances of Dinkum Diamond at Doncaster. Henry Candy has his horses in good form and this horse ran a triple digit speed figure last time out. Dinkum also has form at Doncaster having been place in the flying childers at this meeting last year. Add to this the fact that he is relatively fresh having had just five runs this year and you have a decent each way punt at 13/2 ( Stan James and MansionBet )

Today's Selection

3.10 Doncaster - Dinkum Diamond (each way 13/2 Stan James )
