Captain's Blog - 9th September 2011

I had something of a lie in this morning which is a rarity these days but was very welcome indeed. I am not sure if I feel better or worse for it right now but I am sure the benefits will hit me later today once I have come round.

Another narrow defeat for our each way selection yesterday which was Dever Dream who was beaten by a neck at 7/1. That means our last two selections have been beaten by narow margins at decent prices which is frustrating to say the least.

Hopefully we can go one better today with Kanaf in the penultimate race at Doncaster. This horse, in my opinion is a Group horse in a handicap. He has not been seen to best effect in either of his last couple of starts at York and in the Stewards Cup at Goodwood, but last time out after missing the break he flew home to be a fast finishing fifth behind Secret Asset at York. He is clearly ahead of his mark and I like the fact that he has run well here before. He is generally available at 4/1 and as such he will be my only bet today.

I am very much looking forward to the weekend because on Saturday we will be heading to the Twickenham Stoop to watch St Helens take on Harlequins in an end of season Superleague clash. It will be the first time we have taken my daughter to a game so I am a little apprehensive as to how she will react to the noise and hustle and bustle, but the ground is not far from home for us so if she really does not like it I can get her back home fairly quickly. I am sure she will be fine and all we need to make it a perfect day will be a Saints win even if they are fielding an under strength side. I hope you have an enjoyable day.
