Captain's Blog - 10th September 2011
The Rugby World Cup might be under way but it is the other code that we are going to watch this afternoon. Yes it is our annual trip to the Twickenham Stoop today to watch St Helens play Harlequins. We always enjoy our days out at the rugby and have been looking forward to this game all season. Saints are fielding a weakened team as their place in the forthcoming Superleague play-offs is assured and they do not want to risk some of their better players so it should be a good clash against a Harlequins team who have struggled all year.
Our trip to Rugby means I will miss much of the excellent racing that is taking place around the country today. The St Leger takes centre stage and I have already suggested here on the blog that Census was a fair each way bet at 5/1. I have not changed my mind and believe he will go well in a race that is above average.
I am also interested in the one mile handicap at 3.45 which features Eton Forever who won the Spring Mile at Doncaster beating the very useful Dance and Dance by 3 and a half lengths. Since then Eton Forever has run well in defeat twice at Ascot, but now he is back at the scene of his Spring Mile win I am very keen on his chances, not least because he posted a speed figure of 109 when winning the Spring Mile. A repeat of that performance will see him land the prize. He is currently available to back at 5/1 with a couple of firms and that seems very fair.
Ruby Walsh is back this weekend which is good news for all those of us who believe he is the best jump jockey in the business. Hopefully he will stay injury free during the forthcoming jumps season because he enriches the jumps scene when he si about.
Right, time for me to find my St Helens shirt and get ready for a great day out.
All the best.
3.45 Doncaster - Eton Forever (each way 5/1 Ladbrokes)
