Flippers, snorkel, wet suit at the ready, those who relish soft, even heavy ground need only apply at Ayr, I’ve tipped CROISULTAN in the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup, but now rueing the fact the pin may have been better landing on Regal Parade.
On Thursday when the draw was being done one sensed this was a year the trophy would be wrestled away from David Nicholls domination, but he may well have done a very effective rain dance since then. He almost has one hand on the Silver Cup thanks to Nasri and Tax Free. (Well I hope he does with Tax Free!)
Yesterday was a rare luxury for me a trip to London, Oxford Street, Regent Street, Carnaby Street a first for almost 25 years, luckily I sewed the pockets up as prices are exorbitant. I can ill-afford anything other than window shopping only in Selfridges and Libertys. Unless a winner can be found today and then maybe, just maybe I can treat myself to a souvenir pencil.
Meanwhile the better half was feeding polos to his beloved National Hunt horses, so many hopes and dreams for this season. Manele Bay and Pocket Aces looked very well and the countdown to their return to the track is on, I’ll keep you informed.
Down to the nitty, gritty at Newbury, probably stupidly I am opposing Deacon Blues with KATLA, she hacked up in the Rockingham last year at York and receiving weight with Kieren Fallon on board another Irish winner alongside CROISULTAN.
Luca Cumani can’t be ignored in Newbury’s 3.05 he saddles two Kirthill and Naqshabban, yet I have been waiting to see DHAAMER since his last win at Haydock. John Gosden has two in the race but Dhaamer was mightily impressive and can only improve. TAX FREE ran a blinder in the Portland last week running on well, despite the rain I can’t disown him now.
A big weekend of NFL for me Oakland visit Buffalo but the biggest game surely is Michael Vick now quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles returning to the Georgia Dome and the Atlanta Falcons, the team he brought back from the depths. Michael Vick makes Houdini look like an amateur and all is live on Channel 4 late Sunday early hours Monday.
