Captain's Blog - 21st September 2011

Michael Jarvis sadly passed away yesterday. He was a tremendous trainer and more importantly a true gentleman. I think in terms of his training exploits I will remember him for his handling of Rakti whose talent woud have been lost to a suspect temprement in the hands of a trainer with lesser patience and skill. Roger Varian will keep the Jarvis legacy alive and he can continue his career knowing that he learn't his trade from a top man.

Our selection yesterday breezed in at very restrictive odds which is nothing to be proud of, but a winner is a winner and all that. Hopefully, we will find a few more as the week goes on and we begin our coverage of the Cambridgeshire meeting on .

With that in mind I have come up with a selection for the Cambridgeshire. I like the lightly raced Man of Action. He was impressive in winning at Doncaster last time beating the useful Eton Forever. The turn of foot he showed in a slowly run race from the back of the field was memorable and he should go well on Saturday. In terms of his form you can also add a rather unlucky 6th place in the Totesport Mile at Goodwood to his CV. His best form so far has been at a mile but I see no reason why he will not stay 9 furlongs. Obviously the race is a minefield for punters but at this stage I think this fellow can go well and he is priced at 12/1 with a number of firms.

Have a good day.
