Captain's Blog - 23rd September 2011 A day in the studio for me today and an early start at that for day two of the Cambridgeshire meeting. We are on air at 12.30pm and I am looking forward to working with Mark Howard again. Mark and I have the task of finding winners at Haydock and we will chip in with a few thoughts about Newmarket as well, where we will have Lydia Hislop and Chris Dixon on duty for us. It should be a fun day and we look forward to your company. The action at yesterday on the Rowley Mile followed a familiar and well-trodden path. Indeed the path to be on was tight against the stands rail and the best racing position to adopt was a prominent one. Today the stalls are moving to the far side of the track where I fully expect the far rail to be the place to be and it will be as important as ever to adopt a handy position. For many years prominent racers have held an advantage at this track and I do not see things changing today. We have been having a new boiler installed at McNae Towers and already the work is well into a third day. There have been several delays and the new boiler which is now proudly sitting in its cupboard has a fault already and it has only been turned on once! It could be a long day for the guy who is doing the install as he has to finish today because he is flying to Florida on holiday tomorrow morning. I will be pleased when he finally finishes because the house looks like a bomb site at the moment. Fingers crossed I will come home to a warm house with hot water, but given how things have gone so far I am not counting on it. I am tempted to have a go at the massive jackpot at Newmarket today, but in truth I think you need to throw plenty of units at the project to get a result and most of my units are heading the way of British Gas this week. I may give a few mates a call and see if they want to put a little syndicate together, but even this approach will probably not yield much of a result. Good luck if you are having a go. I hope you have a peaceful and profitable day.
