Captain's Blog - 3rd October 2011

Danedream won the Arc for us here on the blog on Sunday at 27/1. I hope you followed me in and had a piece of the action and many thanks to those of you who have posted kind comments in reference to my last few blogs. It really has been a golden weekend, not only did Danedream win for us but Art History also obliged at 6/1 on Saturday at Newmarket. All this is great but nowhere near as good as Saint Helens beating Wigan on Saturday night to reach the Super league Grand Final. I watched the game when I returned from Newmarket and it really was a magnificent performance from the Saints, they now face the Leeds Rhinos in the final on Saturday and I cannot wait.

Yesterday we decided to take our daughter to an outdoor swimming pool near where we live. It was a lovely day and seemingly the rest of the world had the same idea. Fortunately we arrived early in the morning and got a good pitch on the grass near to the pool. By the time we decided to leave at about 2.30pm there was not even a spare blade of grass. It reminded me of those beaches in Europe that get so crowded there is not even room to turn the page of your book over. Despite the overcrowding we managed to get the little one in the pool for a swim and had some lunch. The space on the grass that we left was soon pounced upon by others wanting to rub elbows with like minded souls. It was good fun though and provided the little one with plenty of stimulation and fresh air.

I am at home again today before returning to the fray for all the action from Catterick tomorrow. I may well cycle to work again tomorrow if this ageing body feels up to it!

Now the problem with having tipped a few winners is that the pressure builds until one of them loses and then you can start again without any expectation hanging over you. Today I am interested in West Leake Hare in the 3.10 at Pontefract. He looks well handicapped on the basis of some decent speed figures and his run last time was better than it appeared. Mince will be favourite on the back of a Newbury win last time, but the time of the race was poor and this horse not only makes the market but has plenty to prove as well.

Today's Selection

3.10 Pontefract - West Leake Hare (each way 11/2 generally)
