Tanya's Blog - 25th November 2011 Fresh from an NFL marathon on Thanksgiving Day, or not as the case may be, I rushed to turn the telly on to find out whether Tendulkar had managed to score his hundredth hundred. How frustrating and annoying, 94, so close yet so far away. Edging ever closer to Hennessy day at Newbury, Grand Crus gave a taster of what was to come, it was my opinion that he won with more comfort than he let on and it will be hard to find a challenger to him come March, but I’m sure there will be a pleasant surprise to come. Today all eyes on Newbury’s 1.35 with Cue Card, Bobs Worth, Spirit River and Mad Moose. I would favour Bobs Worth, having attended the Hennessy Preview evening in London on Monday hosted in part by Mick Fitzgerald. He was very bullish about Bobs Worth and it seemed to be his selection of the three days. Later in the card RILEYEV is out very quickly after his exploits at Ascot on Saturday behind I’msingingtheblues. He receives weight from all in Newbury’s 3.15, if he has a danger it will be last year’s winner Aigle d’Or and I would be tempted to mix the pair up in a reverse forecast. Doncaster hosts their first National Hunt meeting of the season and I was intrigued to see MARLEY ROCA in the 2.35, his last two runs read seventh and eighth which doesn’t tell the whole story. The seventh at Cheltenham was over much too far and he was never placed to challenge. Last time over the same course but a shorter trip he made two many jumping errors even though he managed to loom up three out and look dangerous. He has to be the nap of the day.
POINTERS As always signposts in the Racing Post, today on page 24 has been a font of information starting with Sarah Humphrey has had five winners from her last six runners and watch out for her runner at Doncaster today Paul Nicholls has won Newbury’s 1.00 three times from his last six runners, Newbury’s 2.10 three times from his last four runners and the course’s 3.15 from their last nine runners Nicky Henderson has won Newbury’s 1.35 three times from his last seven runners and the 3.50 three times in the last ten years Nicky Henderson has had eight winners from his last 13 runners Spirit River has been beaten in all three of his starts at Newbury It’s 39 runners since the last Newbury winner for Henry Daly Ruby Walsh has had eight winners, two seconds and three thirds from his last sixteen rides The favourite has won four of the six runnings of Newbury’s 2.45
