Captain's Blog - 26th November 2011

The lurgy has well and truly taken hold at McNae towers. The chesty coughs have now been joined by a sickness bug and it would be fair to say we are struggling big time. Not to worry, it will soon pass and at least I have a day off today giving me some tome to get better before heading into the studio tomorrow. Fortunately the little one is absolutely full of beans, fingers crossed she does not catch anything from the two sick notes in the house.

The Racing today on is superb. Put your feet up this afternoon and sit back to watch some top class jumping and hopefully you will find our coverage entertaining and informative.

I have fond memories of the Hennessey Gold Cup courtesy of Bregawn who won it in 1982. The old boy is no longer with us but I will never forget his last fence blunder that nearly cost him the race and the cool way that Graham Bradley let him regain his composure on the run in before galvanising him to win. I am not sure there is a Bregawn in this year's race but nonetheless it is a competitive and interesting affair.

There is much momentum behind Great Endeavour but I am not with this project. Firstly surley he is a doubtful stayer, so why back him? and secondly he is best at Cheltenham. Good luck if you are with him, he will travel well and may stay but I am not prepared to take the risk.

There are a host of horses with good chances and I am quite keen on Michel Le Bon and Wayward Prince but in all honesty I will not be having a bet, it is far too tough a race for this lurgy ridden punter to get his head round!

No joy with our selection yesterday - Ardlui. He was well beaten in the first race at Newbury yesterday after not jumping particularly well. He will win hurdles races when his jumping improves and he faces better ground. keep the faith with him, I suspect he will prove to be useful evetually.

Ok I am going to sign off for the weekend as I am not feeling too hot. Sorry for the brevity on such a Big Bucks day!!

All the best.

Today's Selections

12.55 Newbury - Prospect Wells
1.10 Newcastle - Cue to Cue
