Captain's Blog - 11th January 2012

Relief was my overwhelming emotion as Kazlian went in at Leicester yesterday. I know that a 15/8 winner is nothing to shout about but I needed that big time and can now move on through the week with my confidence just above rock bottom. I think he is an interesting horse as he beat some nice types yesterday and did so comfortably. Formerly with Jean Claude Rouget he has some decent flat form on his CV and has taken to hurdling very well indeed. I am not sure if he is good enough to be a force at Cheltenham in March, but he is certainly an interesting prospect.

Today will be bringing you all the action from a twilight card at Kempton. As ever the show will be a studio-based one so please do get your emails into the studio ASAP. I realise that this time of year is always a quiet one and thus there are not many hot topics floating around, but I am sure there is plenty that you want to discuss, so please do let us know.

Talking of this time of year, I am sure it is about now every year that Paul Nicholls has a dip in form, largely because his string get their annual injections around about now and he also tends to run some of his lesser lights at this time of year. It is just an interesting thing to keep an eye on if you are punting on the Jumps at the moment. Of course I may be completely wrong and he may have changed his stable routine, but nevertheless it is worth keeping a close eye on.

My daughter is enduring her first day at nursery today and I have to say that dropping her off this morning was one of the most horrendous things I have ever had to do. I know that she will get used to it and even grow to enjoy it, but right now I do not feel great about leaving her in the arms of her carer. It would be fair to say that I am counting the minutes until 3pm when I am picking her up.

Right hopefully we can bang in another winner today. Another Kazlian would do very nicely indeed.
