Captain's Blog - 14th January 2012

My thoughts on the recent whip bans seemed to to stir many of you into action yesterday and I would like to thank those of you who commented on my thoughts. In life it is always reassuring to know that you are not in a minority of one when it comes to major issues and after reading all of your comments last night I know I am not flying solo in my opposition to the new whip rules and I will bang the drum for as long as it takes!

I put up a couple of selections yesterday and we had one winner and one loser. The winner at Wolverhampton was Woolfall Sovereign who was 5/1 in the morning but went off at 5/2, seemingly plenty of people were thinking the same way as me, either that or they had looked at the speed figures this horse had been running lately. So a profit yesterday and hopefully the same will transpire today.

I am afraid Wetherby has fallen foul of a very cold night and they will not be racing today and as I type the meeting at kempton which is an exceptional one is in doubt. I live about 8 miles from the Sunbury venue and we certainly would not race on my lawn today, but then again I do not have frost covers. Lets just hope the meeting gets the all clear. Even if they abandon at Kempton will still bring you a stellar card from Warwick which has already got the go ahead.

I am heading to a Kids party this afternoon on a river boat. I am not sure that it is my Saturday afternoon of choice but even so there will be a few beers on offer for the adults and they have a beautiful wood burning stove that we can all sit around as we bop up and down on the Thames. I am not sure I could live on a river boat, but there is something appealing about a nomadic lifestyle. As long as I could get sky sports and an Internet connection it would be fine I guess, but I will not be rushing to my local boat builder just yet.

I went for a couple of selections yesterday and we managed to turn over a profit, so I think it will be the same policy for me again today.

Have a great weekend.
