Captain's Blog - 10th March 2012

A lovely 4/1 winner yesterday for us folks and thus I trust a good Friday night was had by you all. We celebrated in traditional fashion, beer in our local, curry from our favourite curry house and a few more beers to wash it down. Add to that a great evening of Rugby League and you have a winning combination. All in all we had an excellent evening which a 4/1winner hardly paid for, 33/1 would have just about helped us break even, but what are winners for if not for celebrating!

Winners could flow today folks as well. I am not getting above myself, but there are plenty of punting opportunities this weekend on , the best of which come from Super Saturday in Dubai. This meeting is a warm up for the big meeting itself at the end of the month and every race replicates those that we will see on World Cup night. This year the Dubai Carnival has been the best ever at Meydan and this is the classiest Super Saturday I have ever seen. My strongest fancy is in the final race in the form of Muahadee. This horse was massively impressively last time out posting a big speed figure despite being eased fully a furlong out. Yes the competition in this Grade 1 is a lot tougher, but this horse is the real deal and has the added bonus of the brilliant Christophe Soumillon on board. Some will say that the jump up in class will be too much for this horse,m but that is where the beauty of speed figures intervene to tell you that this horse may have run in lesser races, but has run Grade 1 figures. You will ahve to wait until the last race of the day from Meydan, but I am very hopeful that the wait will be worth it.

My other fancy is Invincinble Ash in the Meydan sprint. To be blumt he should have won last time, but fluffed the start and found trouble in running. He was 4th in the Al Quoz sprint on World Cup night last year and that gives him a solid each way chance today. He is a hold up horse and may get trouble again, but in a top class sprint he is certain to run well at a decent price.

I need to calm down and not get too carried away today, which will be hard given that i am just about to embark on a four hour drive to take my daughter to see her Grandma. The drive will dull my fervour and the strength of my bets, but all in a good cause and hopefully when I check the eracing results tomorrow night they will make pleasant reading.

That’s it for another day folks. Time for me to hit the road.

Take care out there.
