Captain's Blog - Friday 30th March 2012

I think that the tremendous battle for the All Weather jockeys title this season has been worthy of a lot more attention than it has been given. Luke Morris and Joe Fanning have been slugging it out all winter and today we will find out who is to be crowned champion. The final meeting in the series takes place tonight at Wolverhampton after both Morris and Fanning have ridden at Lingfield. They have six rides apiece today in total and Fanning is just one ahead of his arch rival. Both lads need plenty of credit for going hammer and tongs at it since the championship began on the 9th of November. Both are tremendous jockeys, Fanning is a no nonsense journeyman who has a well deserved reputationas being good at riding from the front and I have noticed that he rarely resorts to the use of the whip. Morris is younger and hungry, he rides in an aggressive manner and is tactically sound. In essence it is a battle between a man whose talents are well established and another who is having a breakthrough winter. They both deserve a lot of credit and it is a shame that their exploits have not received more coverage.

All Weather racing is a tremendous product, some see it as being an alternative to jumping when the weather is too bad for the hedge hoppers, the truth is that it stands alone in its own right as a fascinating part of our sport and long may it continue to entertain us in the winter and you never know Great Leighs may be back one day.

A day off for me today before returning to the fray tomorrow for the Dubai World Cup Meeting. I will have a closer look at the action tomorrow here on the blog. For now I would urge you to tune in to our coverage of this big meeting tomorrow as James Willoughby has put together a tremendously accurate set of speed figures for the Carnival which will hopefully help us fond some winners. We will be looking at those figures tomorrow on the show do join us.

Our selection yesterday finished second which has been the way of things for a few days now. Plenty of racing to go at today though and here'e hoping we can end the month on a high note.

Best wishes.
