Heavy rain couldn't dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd who witnessed Pixie Lott's live performance at Ayr Racecourse on Friday June 22 at the STV Appeal Racenight.

The talented songstress jetted into Prestwick Airport from Derry earlier in the afternoon and took to the stage just as dusk fell on the track.

The rain had held off for most of the evening's racing but cascaded down during the 30 minute show.

A large crowd had gathered in front of the stage and the atmosphere was upbeat as the hits flowed including "All About Tonight" and Cee Lo Green's "Forget You". There was also a medley of 60s hits that had the crowds dancing.

The entire night was a huge success with more than £65,000 being raised for the STV Appeal and Ayr Racecourse Marketing Manager Lindsey Smith commented: "To raise so much money on what was a new Race night for us was absolutely tremendous. Everyone from STV was delighted and Pixie's performance was the icing on the cake.

"Unfortunately the weather all around us was horrendous and people were phoning all day long to enquire if racing was still on. But all in all we are very happy with the night."

Over the weekend more than 10,000 flocked to the Racecourse for both the STV Appeal Night and Scottish Sun Day.

In addition to the top racing several lucky ladies won coins that guarantees them a place in the final of the Ladies Day competition when they could win a Vauxhall Astra GTC courtesy of Kerr & Smith. The runner up will land a holiday in Spain and Portugal courtesy of Stewart Travel and third place wins a piece of jewellery from Alex Cairncross.

Winners of the coins over the weekend were Julie Miller and Gemma Carruthers from Kilmarnock, Julie Dean of Knockentiber, Leah Percy, Maybole, Kathryn Brown, Ayr, Janet Frew of Annbank and Prestwick woman Helen Cresswell.

The Best Dressed Man on Friday night who won £300 of vouchers from Slaters Menswear was Stephan Pereira of Dundee.
