Captain's Blog - Friday 13th April 2012 At my age I should know better than to blow my own trumpet, but what the hell here goes. Get in there Edgardo Sol you little beauty, and James Wade I never really liked you much or rated you that much but in beating Gary Anderson last night in the Premier League darts you have become a legend in my mind for at least the weekend. God help you James when you come up against the one and only Phil Taylor later on in the tournament, but for now I will celebrate your ability before walking in a Taylor wonderland when it comes to the final in few weeks time. Of course we cannot bask in the glory of yesterday for too long because another day is upon us and the secret to winning is to hit the treble twenty more than once. With that in mind my thoughts on Ladies day at Aintree today are somewhat mixed, the sights on show will certainly be better than yesterday, but the racing is not quite as good. Nonetheless there are two Grade 1 events to get stuck into. I like the look of Albertas Run in the John Smiths Melling Chase. He goes well at the track and comes here after running very well in the Ryanair at Cheltenham. Some horses find it hard to repeat their Cheltenham form at Aintree and are over the top, Riverside Theatre yesterday was an apt example, but this horse has proved he can back up after Cheltenham and he is sure to run well. I also like the look of Vulcanite in the opening contest. He is a keen sort but for much of the Supreme Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham he looked like he would go close, two out no horse was going better and then he emptied quickly. In essence he was simply too exuberant in the early stages of the race and had no petrol left at the business end. He will be well served by the likely fast pace he is going to get today and also the sharper track.
Today’s Selections 2.00pm Aintree: Vulcanite
