Captain's Blog - Monday 23rd April 2012 I am sure that you will agree we have just enjoyed a tremendous weekend of Horseracing and that the flat season is now well and truly underway. Unfortunately the weather is not flat racing weather, but these April showers will surely disappear soon, meanwhile there is still a hosepipe ban in most parts of the country, which amazes me because you are still allowed to fiil up your watering can as many times as you want from an outside tap. Well at least I hope it is OK to do that! Anyway who would shop anyone for using a hosepipe, you would have to be very small minded indeed to do that, on the other hand you never know when a wannabe traffic warden is watching you. I am in the studio today and will be joined by the crazy frog, Claude Charlet. Not only is there action from Longchamp we will also be bringing you all six races from Pontefract. I have always enjoyed the action from the Yorkshire venue, particularly when Paul Morrison is part of the on course team and I am delighted to say he is once again tomorrow. I trust you enjoyed the recent feature from the sales at Newmarket where we gave Paul a virtual bank with which to buy some yearlings. We will be following his purchases and it will be very interesting to see how they go as Paul has a tremendous record with horses that he has bought in the past. It looks as if Camelot is going to go off a short priced favourite for the 2000 Guineas. he is not a confirmed runner yet though, but at the moment the field does not look that strong and O'Brien must be very tempted to run. I would not back him at the even money that is available right now, that is too short, but he may well bolt up. I did wonder whether the Jean Claude Rouget trained Abtaal was a live one for the race. He is about 16/1 looked pretty impressive on his seasonal reappearance. Again though, will he turn up on the day? I will be quizzing Claude Charlet on that matter later on this afternoon. As ever Claude will have a view and, no doubt some juicy snippets of information to impart. My selection today is Back in the Frame in the 2.15 at Pontefract. This Tom Dascombe trained two year old can put previous experience at Wolverhampton to good use. Join us later on if you get time. All the best.
