Bonfire is a non-runner in the Dee Stakes, surely he’ll now be seen in the Betfred Dante at York next week! However I wasn’t going to pick him today, instead Kingsdesire is my selection. His run at Doncaster on April 1st was rather taking, although the ground is less than ideal, it’s the same for all and he does look as though he has plenty of potential.

There are some ominous dark clouds gathering above the racecourse which added to the ultra soft going, and surely the concerns of Andrew Balding and many others deliberating on whether to let their horses take their chance this afternoon.

An amusing incident this morning as I tried to park, only to be told the area was for badge-holders and bookmakers only. I told the attendant I used to be a bookmaker, who with his mate collapsed into laughter, stating "you’re barely old enough to hold a licence, so what lifetime did you believe you held a betting licence?" I was soon ushered away to another part of town, as my Press badge wasn’t accepted either. A wry smile has been across my face ever since.

Pricewise bounced back to form in a big way yesterday courtesy of Absinthe and Marcaret and today Dubai Dynamo and Bubbly Ballerina get the “battle to get on” treatment.

I may have been on Ballesteros last time at Sandown but he took a while to warm to his task. Church Music could well reduce the deficit if not reverse it but the horse I take to win the race is Last Bid who had some fair form last year.

The following race and there could be some each-way value with James Given’s Glenridding, he has been running on the all weather, however he is well accustomed to the twists and turns of Chester, this will be his eleventh run at the course, the previous ten producing, two wins, and three places. He is two from two on heavy and could have slipped under the radar!

Today's selections:

2.05 Chester Kingsdesire

3.05 Chester Last Bid

3.40 Chester Glenridding
