Captain's Blog - Saturday 19th May 2012

Frankel returns in the JLT Lockinge today and he will surely make all in his usual fashion and confirm his already established superiority over Excelebration. It will of course be good to see Frankel again, but surely what we all want is to see him in a competitive scenario where he has to dig deep for victory, only under such a scenario would we see him at his very best. Of course it is entirely plausable that there is not a horse out there who could push him to greater heights, but it would be good to see.

As far as my selection today is concerned I am very interested in Viewpoint at Newbury. He runs in the opening contest and showed that there was better to come when finishing a decent 7th in the Wood Ditton at Newmarket. For a change that race is working out well and he simply shaped as if he needed the run, flattening out in the final furlong and a half. The Hannon team are in much better form now and this horse will be a lot sharper. I think he is worth an interest on a day of tremendous action on .

I enjoyed all of the actioat York this week and in no particular order here are some random thoughts that stem from the meeting :-

- Horses with All Weather form seem to like York these days. They also go well at Ascot and Doncaster.

- With the above in mind course form at York is vital, look back at what Tiddliwinks has done in the past.

- The Fugue ran a speed figure of 112 in the Musidora Stakes and will be tough to beat in the Oaks. 9/2 at the time of writing is fair.

- Bonfire ran a speed figure of 110 in the Dante Stakes and has a chance in the Derby, but is cut in the ground important to him?

- Horses either act or they don’t at York and poor performances can be excused easily as they can at Ascot.

- Barzalona on, Dettori off in the Dante, you couldn’t make it up.

Any more thoughts that you have would be most welcome, please do post your comments.

I am heading to France for on Monday and will not be back until Wednesday, so this will be my last blog for four days. I will return on Thursday. The purpose of my trip is to film this month's edition of Planet Turf and I am particularly looking forward to visiting the yard of Jean Claude Rouget. I will report back on on Thursday.

I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend and see you next week.
