Prize Money Boost for Ayr Races
25/05/12

Prizemoney for the 2012 flat season at Ayr Racecourse, which starts with a two day meeting on Wednesday and Thursday, will be £928,600 – a near £30,000 increase on last year.

Ayr Races

The highlight of the 16 day season will be the three day William Hill Ayr Gold Cup Festival which runs from Thursday September 20 until Saturday September 22 and carries more than £430,000 in funds with £120,000 in the Gold Cup pot alone.

For the first time ever this year all three major sprint handicaps at the meeting – the William Hill Ayr, Gold and Silver Cups will be run on the Saturday adding to the excitement of Scotland’s richest flat meeting of the season.

There are also five meetings in July making this the busiest month of the year at Ayr with racing on four successive Mondays – July 9,16, 23 and 30 as well as the Family Raceday on Sunday July 8.

Every race at Ayr during the 2012 flat season will meet the Horsemen Group’s tariff scheme starting with the Spring Raceday on Wednesday and the Blue Square Raceday on Thursday May 31.

The highlight of the opening day is The Bet Mobile At BetVictor.com Handicap over the minimum trip of five furlongs with £10,300 in the prize fund.

Entries include Barney McGrew from the Michael Dods stable – second to Jimmy Styles in the 2009 William Hill Ayr Gold Cup, Jim Goldie’s Rothesay Chancer and Mayoman representing the trainer – jockey combination of David O’Meara and Danny Tudhope.

Jim Goldie’s impressive three year old Jack Dexter is a likely runner in the Bet At Bluesquare.com Handicap over six furlongs on Thursday and if this horse is as good as it appeared last time out at Chester it should take some beating.

The feature on day two is the opening race – a two year old maiden over five furlongs which has attracted runners from the Jeremy Noseda, Mick Channon, Sir Mark Prescott and David Simcock yards.
