Captain's Blog - Wednesday 30th May 2012 My selection today is Red Adair in the 6.45 at Folkestone. This newcomer from the Richard Hannon yard has been found a modest contest in which to start his career. With the Hannon two-year-olds running well this horse who has been well backed already will be hard to beat this evening. Dark Ages did the business for us yesterday at 13/8. I hope you followed me in and increased your own pile of units ready for Epsom this weekend. At this stage I do not have a strong view about the Oaks or the Derby, although being a speed figure man surely The Fugue will go well in the Oaks if she does not bounce out of a big effort in the Musidora. I know it looked as if she won easily, but the figure she ran suggests she had to run fast and hard and that could take its toll on Friday. Of course the other side of the coin could be that she is simply very good and is capable of running even faster. If that is the case she will win. I have a day off today, but already have been mad busy and it is nice to just sit down with my laptop and take it easy for an hour or so. Once that hour is complete I will be off again on a trip to the local tip and then an afternoon with the lawnmower and hedge trimmer. I am also a man of leisure tomorrow, but that day has already been earmarked as a ‘get ready for the Oaks’ day, which not only include some form study, but also a trip to collect my suit from the dry cleaners. At least if I talk nonsense on the day I will be wearing a clean suit whilst doing it. It is of little surprise to me that Black Caviar is going to swerve the Sussex Stakes clash with Frankel. She is a sprinter not a miler and why should she give up her unbeaten tag in a match where all the cards were stacked in her favour. There will be those who say she is running away from Frankel, but that is palpable nonsense and deserves no further comment. Right that's it for today. Have a good one.
