Captain's Blog - Monday 4th June 2012

Camelot was a most impressive winner of the Derby on Saturday and I believe he will go on to prove to be one of the best Derby winners we have seen for many years. I was fortunate enough to see him in the parade ring before the race and while I do not believe in the dark art of paddock watching this horse is one of the best looking individuals I have ever seen. As I always say, plenty of good looking horses cannot run fas,t but this horse has got the lot and his looks match his ability. I cannot wait to see him again and a match with Frankel over 10 furlongs would be tremendous. It would be a race where Frankel would not able to just chase his pacemaker and quicken away, he would be made to work hard to win and that is something that we would all travel a long way to see.

I enjoyed my two days at the Investec Derby Festival for and I hope you enjoyed our coverage. I have to admit that when I got home on Saturday night I was out on my feet and not even a couple of refreshing pints could revive me. I am up and running again now and looking forward to a week that will involve a bit of Kempton, a wedding in Wales and a bit of Rugby League at the Twickenham Stoop. A quiet week overall, but on Wednesday please do get in touch with the studio with any thoughts you have on the Derby. James Willoughby will be my guest and as ever the mail address is studio@racing uk.com.

I am going to try to put together some speed figures for Derby Festival which will properly put the results into perspective. I should have these ready here on the blog tomorrow or on Wednesday. I reckon Camelot ran a blockbuster figure, but I will not know until I have crunched the numbers.

My selection today is Rippled in the 4.50 at Leicester. Not much of a price I am afraid, but should win for the in-form Gosden and Buick axis. Good Luck.
