Captain's Blog - Monday 16th July 2012

My selection today is Cruise Tothelimit in the 6.10 at Windsor. This horse won well at Newbury last time and did so in a decent time, one which suggests he is well treated. He has not been with the Ian Williams yard for long and on that basis there could be more improvement to come. Charles Bishop is on board and in this sphere he is more than competent. Cruisetothelimit should be backed with some confidence to win tonight.

Today is the day we welcome back the young pretender to the fold. Yes, Ollie Bell is back from his educative sojourn down under and is going to be guiding the ship from the studio this afternoon. Alex Steedman and Graham Cunningham will be at Ayr for us, a top team I am sure you will agree, and it really would be rude not to tune in later, if only to see if Ollie has become a bit of a surfer dude!

The racing at the weekend was classy, but I am afraid it was ruined by the rain. Nothing should be taken away from those horses that won the big races on Saturday, but all the results should be taken with a large pinch of salt. For the good of the sport please stop raining now because if it does not dry up then many of our top-class horses will have been denied the chance to show how good they are. I am praying for a dry Ebor meeting and a truly Glorious Goodwood. I am not a regular church-goer, but if that is what it takes to get some fast ground I will be knocking on the door of my local church every Sunday morning.

I will be taking a break from the blog for 10 days now as we are going away on holiday. I am looking forward to having a break and will be back just before the end of the month. Stay dry out there and back plenty of winners.

All the best.
