Captain's Blog - Monday 13th August

It was with great sadness that I heard of the death of Sid Waddell yesterday. He was one of the best sports broadcasters to grace our television screens. His wit, intelligence and charisma helped darts to shun its rather seedy image and without his influence the game may never have become as big as it is today.

I love watching darts. It is a sport, and a fantastic one at that, and I loved listening to Sid. He helped to make the sport as popular as it is today and the game will not be the same without him. Rest in peace Sid, the sporting world is poorer for your loss and I will continue to watch darts with a passion because of you but it will not be the same without you.

My record here on the blog last week reads, two winners and four second places. It would be fair to say that I am pleased enough with my form if a tad frustrated. Today I like the chances of Alhaarth Beauty in the first at Kempton.

This two-year-old is improving and showed clear signs that a win was just around the corner last time out. Hopefully the Kempton track has settled down a bit and it is not riding as deep as it has been recently because I do not think she would relish a Fibresand-style slog. All being well she should go close in the opener.

I am at Kempton today and Eddie Freemantle will be my expert guest. It should be a fun afternoon and I am hoping that we stay dry for the duration. Make sure you tune in from 2.00pm.
I trust you all have a profitable start to the week.
