Sequence Team Leaving it Late on Leger Decision The Ladbrokes St Leger participation of the talented Main Sequence will not be decided upon until much closer to the big day, after trainer David Lanigan confirmed he has yet to make his mind up about running his stable star at Doncaster or heading to Longchamp the following day for the Prix Niel, writes Elliot Slater.
Lanigan is to have lengthy discussions with the colt’s owners, the Niarchos family, according to the Betfair St Leger page, after which a decision will be reached. For the meantime, Main Sequence will be declared at the five-day stage for the final classic of the British Flat racing season, set to take place at Doncaster on September 15. Fans of the striking chestnut colt will be hoping he gets the green light for the Town Moor contest, in which he will have to pit his wits against the Triple Crown seeking Camelot. Given an end-to-end gallop, Main Sequence could well run into at least a place at Doncaster, having proved himself a classy performer earlier in the term in winning the Group 3 Lingfield Derby Trial on the Polytrack surface, beating the subsequent Bahrain Trophy winner Shantaram. He then stayed on bravely into second place behind Camelot in the Investec Derby at Epsom, a few weeks later. Very unlucky at Longchamp on his subsequent outing ,when repeatedly denied a clear run in finishing just over a length fourth to Imperial Monarch in the Grand Prix de Paris, it would be nice to see Lanigan’s charge having another crack at his old rivals, in what promises to be a tremendous contest at Doncaster. Keep an eye on the Betfair horse racing odds in the build-up to the St Leger for the latest updates on Main Sequence – should he make an appearance. |
