Captain's Blog - Monday 24th September

I hope you enjoyed all the action on Racing UK over the weekend and be sure that there will be plenty more for you this week.

Many thanks to all of you who responded to my blog earlier last week when I dealt with the issue of the changes that have been made to the Grand National. There were varied views as you might expect and I am pleased that my blog at least provoked some debate, to say nothing of letting me know that at least five of you out there spare some time every day to read my nonsense.

My selection today is Poole Harbour in the 4.20 at Kempton. He is trading at about 7/1 currently and should be backed each-way. He has been a little inconsistent of late, but a return to Polytrack may see him bounce back to his best. He has won on the surface before in a good time and he is open to more improvement on the surface. On this basis 7/1 is fair enough on a quiet Monday afternoon.

The Jumps season has resumed. I did not notice any discernible gap between last season and this new one and in all honesty I think there should be a month’s break for the hedge hoppers at some point during the season.

Richard Johnson feels that such a break should come in August so that trainers and jockeys etc. can have a break with their families during the school holidays, this makes a good deal of sense but so did the old whip rules and look what happened to them!

Here's hoping that Hamilton gets the go ahead later this morning.

All the best folks.

Today's Selection

4.20 Kempton - Poole Harbour ( each way )
