Angus McNae

Captain's Blog - Tuesday 25th September

Poole Harbour was a 7-1 each-way selection yesterday here on the blog. In finishing second he gave us a lukewarm start to the week, at least it was not a confidence-destroying loser.

When you are punting there is nothing worse than having your confidence smacked out of the ground. This is the key to keeping ahead of the old enemy; try to keep hold of this vital commodity even in the face of a few losers. Discipline is of course vital in terms of managing your bank, but confidence is crucial.

The few really successful punters I know have self-belief in spades and always seem to land on their feet when it comes to punting, and this is because they have unswerving faith in their own methods. Whether you study videos for hours on end, lovingly crunch speed figures, or believe in the weights and measures of collateral form you need to remain true to yourself and do it your way.

My selection today is I Confess in the 4.10 at Beverley. I have had my eyes on this horse for a while now and he has been shaping well of late. There is no doubt that he is well-treated and has a handy draw in stall two. He will be an each-way price, indeed at the time of writing he is a 12/1 shot. The race itself is a tough one and I would be quite fearful of the recent Pontefract winner Shadowtime, but on balance I Confess represents a decent wager.

Have a good day.
