Captain's Blog - Friday 28th September

Telescope won for us yesterday at Newmarket at very restrictive odds, but at least during the race we had very few worries. Now and then it is nice to have a winner without having a heart attack and this was one of those occasions. I will try and induce a cardiac arrest today though, life is hardly worth living if you do not live on the edge!

Yesterday I mentioned the autumn highway that exists on the far rail at the Rowley Mile course. At the moment this statement is not relevant because the course is divided into two and they are racing on the stands' side strip. When they move to race on the far side then the highway against the far rail really does come into play. For many years pace against that rail at this time of year has proved to be a distinct advantage and once we are racing on that part of the track I am sure the same will apply. Watch this space. as they say.

My selection today is Classic Colori in the Silver Cambridgeshire at Newmarket. This horse finished second in this race last year and looks as if he has been prepared to run a big race here again. He had no chance last time in one of the Shergar Cup races over 12 furlongs. He simply does not stay that far. This nine furlongs is his ideal trip and he likes the course. The booking of Richard Hughes shows intent and as this horse needs to be held up Hughes is the perfect man for the job. At the time of writing 14/1 is available with Bet Victor and that makes each-way appeal.

I am back in the studio today for my third day on the spin and will be joined by Dave Nevison in the studio. He will be helping with me out with all the action from Haydock whilst on course at Newmarket Ollie Bell will be your presenter and Steve Mellish will be providing the winners. Yes it is the Bell and Mell show today! Tune in from 12.30, it should be a good one.

Today's Selection

4.35 Newmarket - 2* Classic Colori

* If I have a strong view about a selection I will always make that apparent and I scale the confidence I have in my selections. One is minimum faith and 10 is maximum bet stuff.
