Captain's Blog - Tuesday 30th October

Hurricane Sandy has hit the New York area with tragic consequences and as such it looks as if it will have a knock-on effect for your Breeders' Cup punting. Many horses trained on the East Coast are stranded and unable to fly because of the extreme weather conditions. This means that many of them will not get to Santa Anita when their trainers wanted them to and thus their preparation once at the track will be more like plan B than plan A, which is never ideal when preparing for a big race. I am sure some East Coast horses will still win a race or two, but it would be wise to be cautious if you were thinking of going in heavily on one.

As you know from one of my blogs last week I fancy Royal Delta to win the Ladies Classic on Friday night. She will definitely run in the Ladies Classic race and not the Breeders Cup Classic, for which she was second favorite. I tipped her up last week at 5-2 and now we have a definite runner and she looks certain to runs a massive race in her bid to win back-to-back Ladies Classics.

By way of a reminder, Wise Dan was my other selection and he is bang on course for the Mile and according to recent workouts is in good nick. I do not believe that the Europeans will have a very good meeting, but I think we should be backing St Nicholas Abbey in the Turf, even if he is not racing on Lasix. At the Derby this year Nick Luck asked me live on air what I felt the future would hold for St Nick and I said I thought he would win the Breeders' Cup Turf again. With this millstone still swinging from my neck I am not about to desert him now. He looks to be a standout in this field and amazingly the Americans do not make him favorite. He will be hard to beat and I make him my third ante-post selection for the Breeders' Cup.

My selection yesterday finished second. Today I am selecting Conry in the 1.50 at Catterick. He likes the track, loves soft ground and is in good heart having won here last time out. He is well drawn in stall three and looks certain to go well.

Today's Selection

1.50 Catterick - 4* Conry

Ante-post selection:

Breeders Cup Turf: St Nicholas Abbey

* If I have a strong view about a selection I will always make that apparent and I scale the confidence I have in my selections. One is minimum faith and 10 is maximum bet stuff.
