Tanya's Blog - Friday 7th December

A flurry of snow brought the south to a standstill on Wednesday and once again I found myself living in Siberia. The conditions are once again making a mockery of the schedule and fingers are tightly crossed that Sandown is wrapped up nice and snug with covers deployed. I’ve done the racecard selections for the first of a two-day extravaganza and, yes, I have tipped Brackloon High.

Denis O’Regan is riding extremely well and has a good book of rides at the Esher venue, which could see him having at least a double. Haymarket comes back after a seven-week rest, having had three respectable efforts in quick succession. John Ferguson is back to form and the pair could team up for a winner in Sandown’s finale.

Special attention should be paid to Sandown’s 1.45 as previous winners include Fingal Bay, Junior, Labelthou, Neptune Collonges and Inglis Drever.

Fingal Bay is running in Exeter’s 1.00pm and to my astonishment the prize fund is £17,000, yet it has attracted only four in total.  How woeful is that? And his price in the shops will only send punters elsewhere and off for a coffee! Lovely as it is to see Philip Hobbs's star, it is hardly going to tell us much. Time to dismount from the soap box and enjoy the mince pies which have just arrived in the office!

As an aside, have you noticed since I stopped tipping Quaddick Lake he has won his last two? How infuriating.  At least it highlights what a good season team Jeremy Scott/Nick Scholfield are enjoying and they are worth following closely.

Fingers crossed Jack Frost won’t cause any mischief ahead of a superb weekend.  Sprinter Sacre v Sanctuaire, Flemenstar v Sir Des Champs and action from Aintree over the big spruce fences.
