Tanya's Blog - Thursday 11th July 2013 Sugar can taste so sweet at Newmarket Sadly you can’t be in two places at once or even three! Trent Bridge is a huge distraction. But racing has scheduled some mighty heavyweights alongside each other certainly towards the end of the week with Chester, York, Ascot and Newmarket all battling for centre stage and the punting pound. Too much of a good thing is bad as some really good horses will be lost to the big-name clashes. On Thursday I’ll be stood in Newmarket’s summery betting ring. In fairness the bookmakers would turnover more if they were selling ice-cream, or even strawberries. The July course is not one for maximum turnover, as it is a rather special place to visit and enjoy the surroundings. The dynamic of the ring could change if, as I suspect, Justin Carthy makes his debut on the Ladbrokes pitch on-course. Justin, renown for standing on the pitch of the all-conquering Chronicle bookmakers will now try and acclimatise to standing for a bigger concern. Newmarket on Wednesday was warm and breezy, the setting poised for three days of fun. Which is far from how I feel at present as I'm nursing a summer cold. So here’s hoping the selections can come good. Feel Like Dancing, who runs in the Bahrain Trophy, was an admirable runner-up in the Queen’s Vase and in an interview with trainer John Gosden prior to his run at Chester he was nominated as more of a St Leger horse. John Gosden is also attempting a third straight triumph in the race and he has the stride which would be suited to this July course. Brown Sugar caught everyone’s eyes when runner-up over course and distance on debut and there is no surprise that the run translated into a triumph at Salisbury. Surely there is more to come.
Today's tips: 1.40 Newmarket: Feel Like Dancing at 3-1 with SkyBet 2.10 Newmarket: Brown Sugar at 8-1 with Paddy Power
