Stick with Hannon and Hughes on day one
With Osaila winning for us here on the blog on Saturday we have a few units to invest this week at Glorious Goodwood, which of course is all live on .
It is always a difficult meeting to find winners at, but I feel it is worth remembering those jockeys with decent records at a track that is difficult to ride.
Over the last five seasons Richard Hughes has proved that he rides the track better than anyone else with a 22% strike-rate.
Contrary to the opinion of those who believe getting a clean run on the outside of the field and kicking on early in the straight to avoid trouble is the way to ride the track, Hughes has shown time and again that getting cover and being patient, even if it means finding trouble, is the way to go.
Next up is Kieran Fallon with a 17% strike-rate. He too is a patient rider, and these indisputable stats prove that those who for years have said he cannot ride Goodwood, and keeps finding trouble, are actually wrong.
There are then a number of jockeys who strike at 16%. William Buick’s strike-rate can be directly correlated to that of John Gosden, who is 15% at the track. Ryan Moore is also a 16% man. He is quite simply a brilliant world-class rider and the likes of Goodwood hold no terrors for him.
Finally on 16% is Pat Dobbs. You may be surprised by this, but Dobbs seems to get it when it comes to Goodwood. He also regularly picks up rides for Richard Hannon and Amanda Perrett, who have decent hit rates at the track.
All of these guys should be followed closely this week. They will not let you down.
As for day one of the meeting I have two selections to get us going this week.

Take Toormore to bounce back to form in the Lennox Stakes. He looked like a high-class colt when winning the Craven Stakes. He then ran very well to be beaten over four lengths in the English 2000 Guineas.
At Royal Ascot when he was well beaten behind Kingman the tactics were changed, and he was far too keen under a hold-up ride.
I am sure the same tactics will not be used today and in a race where three-year-olds have a good record I think he will show his true colours.
My second selection is Saptapadi in the Summer Stakes. Quite simply he comes here in really good form . He was unlucky at Epsom two runs back and last time out ran a blinder from off the pace at York.
Silvestre De Sousa gets back on him today from a decent low draw, and whilst he will need luck from off the pace he has a great chance of at least making the frame. He should be backed each-way.
