Cumani can trump his Thursday exploits on Town Moor

Luca Cumani had a tremendous day at Doncaster on Thursday; a double and both won very easily, Silk Sari can develop and improve even further after her win in the Park Hill - imagine that after a five length win? There may even be better to come from his yard. The horse I can’t wait to see on Friday is White Lake in the Weatherbys Stallion Book Flying Scotsman Stakes  at 4.25pm.

He was very impressive at York in the Convivial maiden and with Nafaqa in the race we will have a great measure of both their abilities.  Classic clues and ante-post quotes aplenty tomorrow with that pair.

Prior to that it’s the Socialites Electric Cigarettes Doncaster Cup, a race Times Up has made his own in recent years, though he will face a strong challenge from Estimate and everything could be in her favour as she looked somewhere near to coming back to her best at York last time when trying to reel in Pale Mimosa.  Upped in distance again to 2m 2f she could be visiting the winners' enclosure.

There be a mighty roar if she hits the front, not that the passionate Doncaster crowd need any excuse to cheer.

However the scourge that is the public address system has caused me to reach for headache tablets and throat lozenges as there was an unnecessary requirement to shout in order to be heard. It did get it turned down eventually. Either that or my ears had finally surrendered.

An enormous crowd filled the stands on Ladies’ Day at Doncaster, but the betting ring was fragmented. The enormous cluster of people within the champagne lawn area just past the finishing line is the place to be.

Six bookmakers have pitches that generate business at percentages they can only dream of at other courses. And for those who graft throughout the year in the main Tattersalls enclosure, there is only a smattering of money.

The lucky six should never have liabilities due to their percentages and the only way I can see them getting beat is if it were to rain and the champagne lawn cleared!

The 16 rails bookmakers are unaffected as they are the partition between the champagne lawn and the Tattersalls enclosure and if you want a bet, and are a known value seeker that’s where you head.

Barry Curran was determined to get Bragging, and while the majority of the ring was shying away only offering 7-4, he had 2-1. He later went 15-8, but refused to be forced to anything lower.

Gradually the price came back to him.  And on viewing the race he never really had a worrying moment. Token Of Love drifted, not something you’ll see often with a Pricewise horse.

Other betting observations of note was the support for Melrose Abbey in the Park Hill, one that the robust rails did have to shorten.

Bond’s Girl’s column must have been near empty as the queues at the pitches after he won at 14-1 in the Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes were miniscule.

Thursday was clearly a day to be a bookmaker - I trust they’ve made the most of their good fortune.

Just as an aside, a gamble at Chepstow went astray in the 1.50 on Belle Dormant. It will be worth following her next time out as she is obviously highly thought of if 14-1 into 4-1 is any indication. Put the horse in your NagMe account.
