Tiggy Wiggy Set for L’Abbaye Test as 2015 Classic Contenders Emerge
![]() |
Tiggy Wiggy may be somewhat recalcitrant entering the stalls, but the manner in which she blasts out the gates and bounds to the front utilising her raw pace is simply glorious, and she just highlighted what an exciting juvenile filly she is with Group One glory in the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket last weekend.
Breaking smartly, Richard Hughes eased the Lowther Stakes winner to the front and she yet again set a fierce gallop from the outset and whilst the likes of Anthem Alexander and High Celebrity, who were the other fancied duo in the betting, struggled to get on terms in the closing stages, the Richard Hannon-trained daughter of Kodiac held off her main protagonists to land the 6f prize by three-quarters-of-a-length.

The Hannon team will now send their star filly to Longchamp this weekend to have a crack at the older sprinters in the Prix de l’Abbaye on Arc day. Whether the race will come too soon for her remains to be seen but she is the 4/1 joint favourite to make it four wins on the bounce and a seventh of the season in Paris. One thing is for sure though, if she can train on in her three-year-old days then she will be a prominent figure in the betting for all the Group One sprints next season.
Whilst Tiggy Wiggy has propelled to the top of the juvenile filly tree and will certainly be one of the abiding memories for the 2014 campaign, she has shown that she is genuine speedball and Classic options look to be out of the question next season, but Saturday’s contest may have highlighted a couple of starlets that could land a blow in the 1000 Guineas next term.

Eddie Lynam’s Anthem Alexander may have suffered defeat to Tiggy Wiggy for the second time on the spin, but the Irish raider showed when beating her in the Queen Mary Stakes earlier in the season that she oozes class and bet365 have priced her up as a 25/1 shot for the 2015 1000 Guineas and she is sure to continue to improve for a trainer who has been had a sensational season.

Having won a Group 3 last time out, the Invincible Spirit filly was held up by Maxime Guyon and was unable to unleash the speed needed to keep up with the scintillating Tiggy Wiggy, but in the final couple of furlongs, Guyon got a real tune out of her and she continued to make ground on the leaders and will benefit for the step up in trip as she ventures into her three-year-old campaign.
More Classic clues were to emerge from the Cambridgeshire meeting earlier in the week as Jim Bolger’s Moyglare Stud Stakes runner-up Lucida quickened in tremendous fashion to win the Rockfel Stakes and now a best-priced 12/1 with Ladbrokes for the Guineas next season, she could well be locking horns with the aforementioned High Celebrity in a race that is beginning to take a little shape as we reach the final part of the Flat campaign.
