Stick with Flat-breds in Aintree’s baking sun
It's going to be a difficult day for punters on Friday and getting stuck into every race is surely not the way to go.
Instead I am looking to land an each-way double with two hurdlers who will give us a profit if they both make the frame, in addition to an in-form horse who should relish the test that the Crabbie’s Topham Chase provides.
With the ground drying out all the time at Aintree the emphasis will be very much on speed on day two of the Grand National meeting, despite the excutive stating 4-5 milimietres of water will be sprinkled on top.
With his in mind horses bred for Flat racing with confirmed pace will surely be of interest over the smaller obstacles.
This immediately points me in the direction of Qewy in the Grade Two Top Novices Hurdle at 2.15pm, and he will form the first leg of our each-way double.
This son of Street Cry was very impressive when winning at Newbury two starts ago. He then found his stamina running out on good to soft ground behind Douvan in the Supreme Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham.
Now back on a sharper track and on decent ground in a slightly lesser race he looks worthy of support. Having AP McCoy on board is an obvious plus, and he should get our each-way double off to a decent start.

Leg two comes in the form of Foryourinformation in the Doom Bar Sefton Novices' Hurdle.
I was really impressed with this horse when he won at Bangor last time, and that success came on the type of ground he will face today.
The step up to three miles will suit, and the booking of Paul Townend always makes me more confident.
This is obviously a step up in grade for this horse, but he is lightly raced having had just seven races and under these conditions is open to a lot of improvement.
Since joining Keith Dalgleish Montoya's Son is unbeaten and he was particularly impressive both in the way he travelled and the way he jumped at Newcastle last time. Those two attributes make the Topham Chase an obvious one and, while this is a step up in grade there will be plenty of juice in his price and backing him each-way makes plenty of appeal.
Some may feel that he is going to be outclassed, but we should remember that this is a handicap and the assessor may not have caught up with this fellow. He can be backed at 22-1 and is worth an each-way play.
