Mauresque can be a work or Art at Cheltenham

When Art Mauresque won at Cheltenham on his latest start I instantly felt that the BetVictor Gold Cup was the race for him. So imagine my delight that he does run and what's more he is a 12-1 shot.

He surged clear of inferiors last time at Cheltenham, having being held up and travelled strongly.

It is this style of racing that makes me think he will be ideally suited to the furious pace that is likely to be in evidence in this fiercely competitive heat.

Sean Bowen has replaced Nick Scholfield in the saddle after his Taunton fall on Thursday.

In the same race I think we should also be backing Irish Cavalier each-way at 10-1. In two runs at Cheltenham he has finished first and third, and at Newton Abbott recently he had the perfect prep run for Saturday when winning by half a length from Henryville.

That run will have blown the cobwebs away and I can see him finishing strongly off the decent pace that he needs at least to make the frame. His win at Cheltenham in March over this trip showed him to be really well suited to the track and it is no surprise that he returns for the big prize.

An added bonus is that he will be ridden by Paul Townend, who has learned his trade under the wing of the best in the form of Ruby Walsh and he has a tremendous record when riding for Rebecca Curtis.

Those are my two bets for the Paddy Power Gold Cup, but I am not stopping there!

On Sunday I will hopefully be playing up some of Saturday's winnings by backing Totalize in the Stanjames.com Greatwood Hurdle. He has previous good form at the track, which is very important. In particular I refer to his good run behind Lac Fontana in January. Add to that the fact he has been in good form on the Flat off a mark of 98 recently and that means that off 132 over hurdles he may be well-treated. He has been reasonably well found in the market, but I am happy to back him each-way at 10-1.

Racebets

I always have one eye on the all-weather action when the fast track qualifiers are part of a race program, and at Lingfield I think we are going to see one of the best all-weather horses around. The horse is Let's Go and he runs in the 3.10. He is a lightly-raced son of Street Cry who has already won at Lingfield and Wolverhampton and last time out at Chelmsford he got within half a length of the king of all-weather in the form of Tryster. That makes Lets Go a much improved and classy performer and he will take the world of beating. It is just possible that he could be a real freak as far as synthetic racing is concerned and he should be backed to win.
