Jet Setting Ready for Take-Off at Royal Ascot

Ascot missed most of the thunderstorms last night. I was all set to side with proven soft ground performers but the ground is riding good to soft on Friday morning.

Last night when the rain was hammering down where I am staying not far from Ascot I was all over Jet Setting at 9-4 and fancied her very strongly. The current odds of 5-2 therefore look very appealing.

My belief has been tempered slightly by the lack of rain, but I still think that her victory over Minding was no fluke as essentially she is top-class when she gets the testing conditions she needs.

Both of her latest wins have come on very soft ground and the forecast suggests that from around 11am it is going to rain further. Even if the rain does not materialise, on good to soft she should still handle the conditions best.

This is a deep race, though, with Nathra and Nemoralia both having already proved themselves to be genuine Group One performers when taking on their own sex. They will go well, but Nemoralia in paricular may not be suited by the ground and Jeremy Noseda has been on the brink of pulling her out all week.

Nathra is undoubtedly a danger after her big effort in the French Guineas at Deauville, but it is Jet Setting all the way for me.
