Best Horse Races for Bettors - WORLDWIDE

Horseracing

Betting on horse racing is one of the oldest forms of sports betting in the world, and to this day, it remains one of the most popular types of betting. The horse racing calendar is always jam-packed, with races taking place almost on a daily basis from all over the world. For this reason, punters are always looking for the next big horse race to bet on, which is why we wanted to put a quick piece together and highlight what the top races are.

By betting on these races, you stand a chance to get free bets from online sportsbooks, enjoy ‘best odds guarantees’, and of course, you will be treated to some of the very best horse racing action if you choose to watch the event. So, let's get right into it and check out what the top horse races are to bet on each year.

The Dubai World Cup

The Dubai World Cup is one of the most prestigious horse races of the calendar year. It is held towards the end of March at the Meydan Racecourse in the United Arab Emirates. The reason that this race is so large is mainly due to the incredible prize money that is on offer, which stands at 12 million dollars at the time of writing. This prize money attracts jockeys from all over the world, and besides the popularity, the race itself is always a classic.

The main race is run over the course of 2,000m, and participants can be horses that are more than 3 years of age from the Southern Hemisphere, and horses that are 4 years of age and up from the Northern Hemisphere. Most recently, Thunder Snow became the only two-time winner of the Dubai World Cup by bringing home the victory in 2019.

Unfortunately, the race was postponed in 2020 for obvious reasons, but it will be back in business again for the 2021 season.

The Everest

Here we are moving from the United Arab Emirates all the way over to Sydney Australia, with The Everest being another huge horse racing event to look out for. The race typically takes place on the second or third Saturday of October, and the race is held at the Randwick Racecourse in Sydney. At that time of year, Sydney is not too hot for the horses or the jockeys, and it is also not too hot for the fans, so you always see a great turnout for this race.

In terms of the prize purse, it is very considerable as well. The total prize money for this race stands at 14 million dollars, but it isn't actually the prize money that makes this event so prestigious. It is more how the race operates, as the owner of each horse must pay $600,000 to gain entry into the race, with only 12 slots available. Of course, this makes the race very exclusive, and it is only for the best of the best.

Kentucky Derby

This roundup of the best horse races to bet on would not be complete without including the Kentucky Derby. This event is usually held on the 2nd of May at the Churchill Downs Racetrack, which is located in Kentucky. The prize purse for this race might be significantly lower than the other two that we have listed, but that does not take away from how prestigious and popular the race actually is.

The race itself is rapidly approaching its 150th birthday, and it is the first race of the famous American Triple Crown. Some sports fans even refer to the Kentucky Derby as the most exciting two minutes of the entire sporting year, and this is for all sports, not just horse racing. The only thing with the Kentucky Derby is that you will never have a repeat winner, as the race is only open to 3-year old horses.

It's a quick-fire race indeed, and take it from us, you do not want to miss out on this race when it comes around.

Final thoughts

Some other honorable mentions for this piece include The Grand National, Sheema Classic, Melbourne Cup, and Epsom Derby. Just check out these races if you are wanting a selection of even more horse races to bet on!
