Moore and Browne McMonagle bolster Great Britain & Ireland for the Shergar Cup 2026
Two of the summer’s form jockeys join Saffie Osborne’s side for Saturday’s team contest at Ascot
Great Britain & Ireland have received a significant boost for Saturday’s Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup 2026, with Ryan Moore and Dylan Browne McMonagle both confirmed for the side. Ascot announced that the pair will line up under captain Saffie Osborne for the team event at the Berkshire track on 8 August.
Moore’s involvement is the eye-catcher. It will be only his second ride in the team competition, and his first since 2006 – the year he claimed the Alistair Haggis Silver Saddle as the meeting’s leading rider on his sole previous outing. Two decades on, he arrives in the sort of form that makes him a prized recruit, fresh from five winners at Glorious Goodwood last week. His availability owes plenty to the calendar: with no Flat racing in Ireland that afternoon and the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes moved to the Sunday at the Curragh, one of the world’s busiest riders is free to turn out at Ascot.
Browne McMonagle is enjoying a season to remember of his own. The 23-year-old struck four times at Goodwood, including in the Gordon Stakes on Enceladus and the Lillie Langtry on Goodie Two Shoes, and has already landed both the Oaks on Thundering On and the Irish Oaks on Johanna Walsh this term.
Their addition sharpens Great Britain & Ireland’s hand in a contest fought out by four sides: the home team, Europe, the Rest of the World and the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
