Racing week ahead: Cambridgeshire Meeting at Newmarket
The first leg of the Autumn Double arrives at Newmarket, building to Saturday’s big-field handicap.

Newmarket’s three-day Cambridgeshire Meeting runs from Thursday 24 to Saturday 26 September. It culminates in one of the season’s great betting puzzles, the bet365 Cambridgeshire Heritage Handicap.
The main event
Run over Rowley Mile’s straight mile and a furlong, the Cambridgeshire is a genuine cavalry charge. Fields can stretch to 35 runners, for horses aged three and up. A share of around £174,000 in prize money is on the line.
The first leg of a historic double
This is the opening act of the Autumn Double. It pairs the Cambridgeshire with the Cesarewitch Handicap, run on the same course two weeks later as part of the Dubai Future Champions Festival. Both races were founded in 1839, and completing the double remains one of the rarest feats in the sport.
