Bennys Mist lands the Grand Sefton in great style for Liam Treadwell and Venetia Williams
Bennys Mist was prominent throughout as he went two places better than 12 months ago.
The nine-year-old, representing trainer Venetia Williams and jockey Liam Treadwell, who won the Grand National with 100-1 shot Mon Mome in 2009, had been pulled up in his two previous starts this term.
He put those poor efforts behind him as he bounced back with an enthusiastic round of jumping.
Bennys Mist (8-1), who was also second in the 2014 Topham, had a tremendous duel on the second circuit with Top Cat Henry until that horse tired coming to the last.
Though the pack closed in on the long run from the elbow, Bennys Mist plugged on to score by nine lengths from Seventh Sky (14-1), with Distime (20-1) staying on stoutly for third place, a further two and a quarter lengths away.
Treadwell said: "I'm absolutely buzzing. This horse saves his best for around here now. His jumping has won it for him, going to Becher's he was electric. He as honest as they come and galloped all the way to the line. This place brings him alive."
Sean Quinlan was taken to hospital for tests following a fall from Mwaleshi.
