Roalco De Farges powered up the hill under Tom O'Brien to land the feature £50,000 Showcase Trophy.
The red and blue starred colours are of The Brushmakers who also own the admirable Balthazar King, the cross country expert who has collected this race for the last three years.
But with him taking the continental option with a successful raid over unconventional obstacles in France, it was left to his stablemate to collect the prize by four and a half lengths.
Sarah Hobbs, wife of winning trainer Philip, reported extra efforts had been made to get the horse fit first time out.
"He has been going up the woodchip three times a week instead of twice, but we still thought he might have needed it," she said.
"He always carries plenty of condition."
Winning jockey Tom O'Brien added: "He jumped like a stag."
