Suegioo
Suegioo came with a late run to deny fellow Dr Marwan Koukash-owned runner Angel Gabrial in a dramatic finish to the StanJames.com Chester Cup.

The good Doctor was responsible for no less than five of the 17 runners and his pair battled it out up the straight, with 10-1 shot Suegioo proving half a length too good in the hands of Ryan Moore, despite Angel Gabrial carrying him right across the track.

Jamie Spencer settled Angel Gabrial at the rear of the field until he made eyecatching progress on the turn for home, moving from last to first in around three furlongs before hitting the front at the top of the straight, but the Marco Botti-trained Suegioo threw down a strong challenge and did well to overcome the runner-up's wayward finish.

Moore said: "I had a nice spot in about sixth, I followed Mubaraza and it happened nicely for him. The bit of rain helped this horse. We were flat to the boards for the first quarter of a mile then it steadied up, as it always does."

Botti added: "The gelding operation has definitely helped as last year he ran some good races, but he seems to have matured. He obviously stays and the rain helped. I was really pleased with him and Ryan gave him a great ride.

"He has always shown plenty of ability and ran some big races in big handicaps last season. I suppose it was being well handicapped, the step up in trip and the ground ( which helped him to win).

"While myself and Dr Koukash decided to keep him to around a mile and a half last year, this was obviously a big target with Dr Koukash having such a good record in the race."

The owner said: "A lot of planning goes into this race and if you were to ask me again I'd say the plan for this horse is to win the Chester Cup again next year. We believe Angel Gabrial is a very good horse and he ran a brilliant race today, I'm sure he's got a very bright future. I've won the Cup three times now, I'm taking it home!"
