Prize Money toughs it out to win the November Handicap under George Wood for Godolphin

Prize Money took the cash with a gutsy success on the final day of the turf Flat season.

Owners Godolphin struck in the Lincoln in the spring with the Charlie Appleby-trained Secret Brief and also ended the campaign on a high as the Saeed bin Suroor-trained three-year-old landed the spoils.

His jockey, 5lb claiming apprentice George Wood, kicked on over two furlongs out as Prize Money was travelling so well, after Soldier In Action had made the running into the long straight.

Erik The Red mounted a strong challenge, but the 4-1 scorer stuck to his task well to get home by three-quarters of a length.

Cape Cova, the 3-1 favourite, was another half a length away in third.

Wood, who only rode his first winner in March, said: "This is a dream come true."I felt he had a good chance coming here and it worked out great.

"It's nice to get him back in the winners' enclosure because he's a lovely horse with plenty of class, he was only beaten by Hawkbill at Royal Ascot.

"He seemed to really enjoy it. I got him settled and it all went smooth."He kept on digging and finding in the straight and won pretty well in the end.

"Kevin Ryan was pleased with the effort of Erik The Red in second.

"Kevin (Stott) did everything right, he gave him a great ride," said Ryan.

"That was his first time at the trip and he travelled great. Looking to next year, it open up lots more options.

"He's really starting to grow up now. He's got low mileage and next year he'll be in all the big handicaps."
