Trainers Quotes

Richard Hannon is full of praise for Rosallion, describing him as “everything you could ever dream of.”

As the race approaches, Rosallion, currently the world’s highest-rated miler, has already secured three Group 1 victories this season: the Irish 2,000 Guineas and the St James’s Palace Stakes. Despite a second-place finish in the 2,000 Guineas, Rosallion turned the tables on Notable Speech (Charlie Appleby) at Royal Ascot.

Hannon acknowledges that the horse has been a game-changer, and he believes Rosallion may be the best miler they’ve had since Canford Cliffs.

The upcoming race at Goodwood presents a new challenge as Rosallion faces older horses. Hannon hopes the track won’t pose a problem, and he appreciates the excitement that a top-class horse like Rosallion brings to the sport.

He also confirmed that Haatem would miss the Qatar Goodwood Festival in favour of a trip to France: “Haatem will go for the Prix Jacques Le Marois. He is reliable, sound and talented, and a Group One win will surely come his way soon. He has exceeded expectations and wears his heart on his sleeve.”

Notable Speech is due to be among the opposition once again, as is G1 Dubai Turf victor Facteur Cheval.

Aidan O’Brien's Henry Longfellow is set for a rematch with his narrow St James’s Palace Stakes conqueror Rosallion.

He said: “That’s the plan at the moment and everything is good with him at the moment.”

Ed Arkell, Director of Racing at Goodwood, said: “We are once again delighted with the quality of entries for the Qatar Sussex Stakes, which is always an incredibly competitive race as the first all-aged Group One mile race in Europe.

“To receive entries from all around the world highlights the international importance of the meeting and we are hugely grateful to owners and trainers for supporting the race once again.”
