Formerly trained by Venetia Williams, the five-year-old pulled clear of the opposition from two out to take this valuable prize with plenty to spare.

Closing Ceremony made the running, with Yala Enki and Definitly Red close up. There was drama five out when Our Kaempfer and Wychwoods Brook came down and Low Key was hampered. Meanwhile, Baradari (12-1) made stealthy progress under the trainer's brother, Harry, and put it up to Definitely Red who had struck for home.

Baradari kicked on and was not for stopping as he bounded to victory by seven lengths from Definitly Red. Batavir stayed on for third place 12 lengths away, with Alcala fourth.

The winning jockey said: "That was really good. He travelled so well and I was cursing myself at the second-last for going on too soon, but he stuck to it and galloped all the way to the line.

"He did well last year for Venetia. A change of scenery has done him good and he galloped on all the way to the line. It's nice to get a winner for the owner."

The trainer said: "I couldn't have had him any better. I laid him out for the race. On his old form he had a squeak on the handicap. He has won handsomely in a very good race.

"I'm looking at the Rendlesham (back at Haydock). We've got to try him in the better races now. Today was the big plan and it's going to take him a little while to get over it.

"I'm so pleased to get a winner for Andrew (Brooks, owner). We have six of his. We're very lucky to have those horses. I'm humbled by it all really."

Brian Ellison, trainer of runner-up Definitly Red, said: "It was his first run since March and he ran a blinder.

"He's already schooled over fences and he'll go chasing now. He jumps for fun - he jumped for fun today, to be fair - so we'll get him over fences around Christmas time."
