Brighterdaysahead could yet provide one of the talking points of Christmas racing, with connections ready to stump up the supplementary fee for a crack at Lossiemouth.

The Gordon Elliott-trained mare, a six-year-old owned by Gigginstown House Stud, had been pencilled in for a novice chasing campaign after two productive seasons over hurdles. A minor setback, however, put the brakes on that plan and she has still to line up over fences this term.

That issue is now firmly in the rear-view mirror and, while a switch to chasing later in the season has not been dismissed, the current landscape has tempted Elliott to keep her to hurdles for now. With State Man absent and William Munny taken out, the December Hurdle has taken on a different complexion, opening the door for the defending champion to have another go.

Elliott, reflecting on the mare who demolished her rivals by 30 lengths in this race last year, said: “She worked very well last week.

“She’s going to work in the morning and if she works well and everything is OK she is going to be supplemented for the two-mile hurdle at Leopardstown (on December 29).”
